Working through Zidane's story mode now. WOW! He's so much fun!! Must play the game he came from. I mean, I typically like rogues anyway.. but I had no idea that aerial combat could be so much fun!! THREE CHEERS FOR ZIDANE!! chase, fight, chase, fight, chase FINISHER --- oh wait i didn't have to counter you at all because my character rocks? OH HELLZ JEAH!
Amen, sister! I honestly think Zidane is my favourite character just because he kicks so much ass! He's all - lame combo to MEO TWISTER! Or - Grand Lethal air attack!
Haha, I'm so glad to know I wasn't the only one to really resonate with his playstyle. ^^ Easy level 100 right there.
Zidane's moves are a definite A+, but he starts to get a little tangled up when the AI starts dodging everything. A calm mind and precise movements will get you through even the most seemingly impossible fights, though.
I've actually found that Grand Lethal negates any chance of the AI successfully dodging. With the range Grand Lethal has, I normally hit them at the very end of it even if they dodge. As an added bonus, the computer rarely seems smart enough to hit me during the charge-up time.
My favorite example of vistory spam is Firion's Reel Axe. Once you master it you can combo it into an HP attack called Double Trouble. That combo--high accuracy move paired with a long combo leading to an HP attack--has won me like a million victories.
Well I can't really do combos b/c I play using command mode, not action mode (primarily because I despise how aerial movement and combat are handled), but I'll be sure to have those particular abilities mapped once I learn them!
Well I dunno how command mode really works, but Double Trouble links to Reel Axe directly, like once you select Reel Axe from the Bravery Attacks list, Double Trouble appears by it even though it's an HP attack.
Yeah, I can't choose specific attacks. I choose whether I'm defending, attacking with HP attacks, or attacking with bravery attacks -- the AI does the rest. (Oh and I can say when to summon and when to run after an EX core, too).
Granted.. since Zidane kicks so much ass at aerial combat, when I have a week or so free to get the hang of the awkward controls, I'll switch over -- since it'll be the only way to play against other humans with any level of success! =^_^=
Yeah, in the air the depth perception can get a little weird. You just gotta try a bunch of stuff til you can figure out what is and is not a certain's move good range. Zidane has a specific advantage in that he has aerial BRV attacks that aim up, down, and forward, so there's very few blind spots in his airborne offense. He's a very good character to learn your air game on.
The worst thing about the manual controls seems to be when you're playing someone with a cape such as Golbez. During the chase sequences, his cape can obscure your view of the enemy while you're flipping around dodging.
Honestly, though, I don't see any other way to play this game, it's just so much fun. ^^ Very intense! spazure, let me know what you think of the "awkward controls" after some practice.

Go nuts!
Spam your way to victory!
