We rented it since we heard it's such a short game. I gotta say, I /love/ the atmosphere, even though I suck at RTS games. I just put the difficulty on ridiculously easy, and hopefully I'll manage to get to the end on this one. I'm not that far in, but I've at least gotten to the RTS aspects of the game at this point. It's a lot less complicated than your average RTS, so I have every confidence that I'll get the hang of it eventually.
Yeah you're right, the downside to the demo is that it didn't show the RTS parts -- and teh RTS parts are, in fact, the majority of the game (I learned from reading reviews). That's why I rented it, so I can get further in and get a "real" feel for the game as a whole. ^_^
Actually, it helps if you don't play it entirely like an RTS, which is what Tim Schafer was getting at. It's not all that hard to get through, and they present the RTS elements in a way so that it shouldn't feel too overwhelming. Plus, since you should be spending a lot of your time using the team up attacks, it should feel more like a squad based action game where you just happen to select which units you want to build.
Damn these current gen consoles and their... having everything I want in a game except length, which is the single top factor for me.
I've done nothing but drool over this game the more I've heard about it, but there's no way I'm getting a 360 / PS3 for a game that's reportedly short.
Oh well, I suppose I'm asking too much to have a game that's interesting, entertaining, fun, AND long. Companies make more money for making a million short games than a handful of long ones, I suppose.
Or maybe I'm just jaded and closed-minded. You be the judge!
Brutal Legend is a great game, but depending on your love of Metal, it's probably not enough to buy a console for. I'm renting it too, and while I love the gameplay, the music and Tim Schafer's writing, I don't see myself replaying Brutal Legend after I beat the story. @WildcatDave If you like RPG and RTS games, I wouldn't worry too much about getting a console. Dragon Age comes out next month and THAT is a game that will be looooong when I replay it with multiple characters. The PC version should be better than consoles since it will have the option to play in a top-down RTS view.
@WildcatDave You could always wait till in goes down in price, I rarely buy games at full price. I waited for Resident Evil 5 for a while, just got it off Gamefly was under 20 bucks.
@spazure What I meant was d a m n, but if I said "lol damn is censored" then it would be censored and you still wouldn't know what teh censored word was :P
I guess I'll wait til PS3 is cheaper again, and has more games that aren't 5-10 hours or something.
@WildcatDave If you want a game that will eat time for the PS3 get Demon's Souls. I hear Dragon Age is supposed to be +40 hours. Uncharted 2 can take you about 30 hours on hard and if you look for everything.
I liked Brutal Legends but the 3rd person RTS really didn't sit well with me. Everything else about this game rocked, but then I was give 2 RTS battles at the end of the game. I just wanted a Jack Black Heavy Metal Action Game, not a simplistic slightly well thought out third person RTS.
